MORE SPACE FOR FUTURE GROWTH

Moving into the building at the new company location in Northeim - more space, efficiency and jobs

In September, OPITZ Packaging Systems GmbH relocated from Düderode to Northeim. The manufacturer of packaging machines invested 6.5 million euros in a new company building. After Storopack Hans Reichenecker GmbH acquired 74.9 percent of the company shares in October 2021, both companies took the first step in planning this investment in order to be prepared for future growth. The internationally renowned company has thus increased its space capacity by four times to 3,250 square meters. Thanks to a thriving order situation, the number of employees has risen to 56. The energy-efficient new building was realized with regional companies and financial partners. The old Düderode site remains for the machining technology segment.

"We are still facing a strong increase in national and international demand and decided to relocate to a new building in a logistically improved location in Northeim. We have now quadrupled our space capacity," says Tim Opitz, Managing Director of OPITZ Packaging Systems GmbH. The site offers entirely new possibilities for the successful manufacturer of semi-automatic and fully automatic packaging systems: "We can work on up to 15 projects in parallel, produce customer-specific packaging modules in series and set up and test complete end-of-line packaging lines”.

Realized with regional partners - sustainable energy supply
The new company building meets the highest standards and is, for example, equipped with a state-of-the-art camera-based warehouse lift system. "A major priority for us was to realize our new facility with regional partners – from construction companies and fitters to IT installation and our financial partner, Kreis-Sparkasse Northeim," says Günther Opitz, founder and Managing Director of the company: "A sustainable energy supply and modern energy efficiency were also essential points to us." The building meets the KfW 40 requirements and only requires 40 percent primary energy. A photovoltaic system generates electricity, a heat pump supplies the heating and LED lights are used to illuminate the offices and production area. Charging stations for cars and e-bikes are also provided.

Creation of new jobs - space for expansion
In the course of the expansion, OPITZ has created new jobs and increased the team to 56 employees - 42 people in production (including the fields of mechanical and electrical manufacturing, programming, engineering and warehousing), 12 employees in administration and two trainees. The previous Düderode site will remain as an "extended workbench" for machining technology for high-quality components and thus as a guarantee for delivery reliability and flexibility. OPITZ packaging machines are regarded as premium technology in the industry and are in great demand internationally in times of booming online shopping and rapidly increasing parcel shipping. "For our customers, among them numerous 'big players' in the mail order business, we are very well positioned for the future thanks to options for structural expansion," says Tim Opitz. OPITZ Packaging Systems is highly motivated about the future and is proud to be a family-run company that can rely on the support and talent of a young, dedicated team. The close ties and shared passion for innovation and quality guarantee further growth and success.
In October 2021, Storopack, the specialist for protective packaging based in Metzingen in southern Germany, acquired 74.9% of the shares in OPITZ Packaging Systems GmbH. OPITZ's know-how in the automation of packaging processes and Storopack's experience and expertise in innovative protective packaging solutions complement each other perfectly. Together, the two companies' product portfolios offer an all-encompassing range for the automation of packaging processes. In addition, the two family-owned companies share a common understanding of high standards of quality and customer orientation.

At the beginning of next year, OPITZ plans to hold official inauguration celebrations, including an open day for external visitors and interested parties.
