On October 27 this year, we signed a contract with our long-standing partner and specialist in protective packaging, Storopack Hans Reichenecker GmbH: Storopack is acquiring a majority stake of 74.9% in OPITZ. Storopack, headquartered in Metzingen near Stuttgart in Baden-Württemberg, and OPITZ began collaborating on automated and efficient processes in packaging logistics back in January 2019.
Storopack’s experience and expertise as one of the world’s leading and globally active manufacturers of protective packaging complements OPITZ’s expertise in the automation of packaging processes perfectly. Together, the product portfolios of both companies offer a comprehensive range of services for the automation of packaging processes.
The entire OPITZ product range will be marketed by Storopack in the future. Hermann Reichenecker, Managing Partner of Storopack: “This investment is an important step toward further increasing the productivity of our customers’ protective packaging processes.” In addition to OPITZ’s standard product catalog, solutions are currently being developed for the precise placement of Storopack’s core products, such as AIRplus® air cushions or PAPERplus® paper cushions, using robots. “During the period of cooperation, it has already become apparent that the two companies share many of the same values and a common understanding of high standards of quality and customer focus. This provides an excellent basis for future development,” Hermann Reichenecker continues.
Günther Opitz, Managing Director of OPITZ, is also looking forward to the future together: “The marketing opportunities opened up by the merger with global player Storopack offer tremendous potential that will benefit our mutual customers.” Fulfilling their shared social responsibility is also a driving force for both companies: “We are particularly pleased to have found a partner with whom we can actively shape the market for packaging materials and automation and work toward a sustainable and better use of resources.”
The company name OPITZ Packaging Systems GmbH will remain unchanged and the Opitz family will continue to hold a 25.1 percent stake in the company. Günther Opitz and his son Tim Opitz will continue to be solely responsible for the business operations of the family-owned company as managing directors. In order to meet the rapidly growing demand for OPITZ products and solutions, a new building is already being planned in Northeim, not far from Düderode.
